 Thanos Poulimenos

Thanos Poulimenos is a fashion photographer based in London, Uk. The 29 year old has seen his very own images published in fashion magazines world wide. He has worked with brands such as Pangaia and for magazines such as Vogue Spain, Metal Magazine, Esquire Magazine and Hunger Magazine among many others. He takes portrait style images and often uses unusual poses and odd colour combinations. He has been in the industry for more than 10 years and has studies in Greece, New York and the Uk. His LinkedIn say his musical influences ‘are illustrated by a distinct “dramatic visual” of light and shadows, the trade mark of Thanos’ work in the fashion industry’. Although he is not as well known as some, he still has a long list of clients and editorial work, portraits, campaigns and fashion videos.

His images are unconventional with composition and posing for example a series of images he took called “burned out” for Schon magazine. It features a chair and someone draped across it in multiple images. Another image from the series features someone in an noticeably oversized blazer and trousers too long, stood on a chair in an awkward standing position. There is also an image correlating to the title, two people laying in chairs seemingly “Burned Out”.

Another unconventional series is called “Ne’er Do Well” for Metal Magazine. It features someone in weird and uncomfortable positions around a town or neighbourhood. Sitting on top of what looks like a public bin in curled up position, standing at the end of a bus, laying on a bed and laying across the pavement. The person is wearing colours and in a position matching the outfit.

Something slightly different Is the campaign for Pangaia. This is my personal favourite project and is apart of the Sakura Capture collection. It features the colour pink as the colour palette and has flowers and nature in all the images. The style of imagery matches the brand perfectly and the composition draws you in to the clothing being advertised and styled.

As a viewer, his images remind me a lot of Nick Knight, in that it’s bright, fashion based, colourful and has unconventional postures. It also reminds me of a book called Posturing that is a book including images of strange poses in weird places.
